Appearance:

Padma, like her sister Parvati, is Indian with long, dark hair and dark eyes. She's tall, around 5"8, and very slim.

She and Parvati are the prettiest girls in their year, according to Dean (GoF23), but Padma, like most teenage girls, is quite insecure about her appearance in general, and when she's not wearing robes, prefers to cover herself up by wearing jeans or A-line skirts and simple, classic jumpers-- her style of dress is more classy and elegant than anything else, and she rarely goes overboard with makeup, preferring to keep it subtle.

Personality:

Padma is both very clever and a Prefect, so before the episode with Bellatrix Lestrange in London tended to look down on her ditzier non-Prefect sister Parvati, but now she's got her priorities straight and has realised how important Parvati and the rest of her family and friends are to her, so she's calmed down a bit in that respect.

Padma loves to work hard and enjoys a challenge. She, like Parvati, enjoys shopping, but prefers to curl up with a good book. She's not brave (definitely not Gryffindor material) with a tendency to run away from her problems rather than face them head-on, but she has a strong sense of what is right and wrong, and is fully prepared to stand up for what she believes in (as long as she doesn't have to drag anyone else into it unwillingly) and will remain defiant until the end, although sometimes this counts against her.

She's extremely, annoyingly stubborn, and will not back down, no matter how far she is proven to be wrong. She is also very impulsive under pressure despite her calm, cool exterior.

You might wonder then why she was sorted into Ravenclaw, but in reality, she is an extremely intelligent, kind and genuine person, with excellent leadership skills and a good head on her shoulders. Her more impulsive side appears only when she is pushed to the extreme edge of her sanity.

She is a member of Dumbledore's Army, and leans very heavily towards the light side thanks to her friendship with Harry and her family's support of Dumbledore. When she leaves Hogwarts, she wants to aid the war effort in any way she can, but she's a realist and knows that her tendency to run away under pressure means she could never be an Auror. Instead, her considerable talent where Ancient Runes and Charms are concerned means that she's thinking very seriously about becoming a Curse Breaker, although she's enough of an all-rounder so that there's always room for her to change her mind if she ever decides Curse-breaking isn't for her.

Since her ordeal with Bellatrix Lestrange, Padma has become quieter and more introverted than before and has lost a bit of confidence, which makes her position as Prefect difficult, but she's learning to cope better with life in general and is gaining in confidence by the day, although she still finds it difficult to be at home with her family as she cannot help but feel a huge amount of guilt about what has happened. She throws herself into her Prefect duties and her studies as a distraction from the screams of the Muggles she was forced by Bellatrix to harm under Imperius. No physical scars remain from Bellatrix's attack, but the emotional scars are deep, and will never heal completely.

However, as Anthony Goldstein, Head Boy and her boyfriend and long-time friend reminded her, the true indication of her essentially good character can be seen in the fact that when she was forced to cast the Unforgivables, they would not work to any extreme degree.

Talents:

Padma enjoys complicated and thought-provoking subjects such as Ancient Runes and is excellent at Charms, but in her spare time enjoys studying Muggle Philosophy. She's recently become increasingly interested in DADA, her weakest subject, if only for trying to reassure herself that next time she sees Bellatrix (if she ever does), she'll be ready. Although she's actually quite good at Potions, she loathes Professor Snape for what he did, so that makes lesson-times awkward.

History:

Padma is a Pureblood. Bellatrix described her as a 'Blood Traitor' and this description has made a deeper impact on her subconscious than she will let anyone know, but, as Harry put it, 'Wouldn't you rather be a Blood Traitor than be like Bellatrix?'. She lives with her parents (who both work for the Ministry and are in league with Dumbledore) and twin sister Parvati, a Gryffindor, and her two older brothers, Sarik and Sunil, who have left Hogwarts and are sorting out homes of their own at the moment whilst they train to become Aurors. Padma has no such ambition, quite aware that because of her guilt-complex and her tendancy to run away from problems she would be a liability on the Front Line (so to speak), but she hopes to be able to aid the War effort in other ways, perhaps as a strategist, because she's an extremely logical thinker.

Padma and Parvati are still close but have drifted apart a bit since being sorted into different houses at Hogwarts, and they argue frequently about trivial things, although less so now that Bellatrix's attack has helped them both to sort out their priorities family-wise.
